Care & Cleaning

How to care for your Grüezi Bag products

  • All sleeping bags should be dried from time to time or after each trip to remove excess moisture.

  • Sleeping bags must be stored open and dry in the storage bag. If you do not have a storage bag you can use an old pillow case.

  • When packing into the compression bag, the sleeping bag must be carefully stuffed with the foot part first, not rolled or folded.

  • Airing is better than washing. If the sleeping bag/jacket is slightly dirty on the outside, we recommend just gently cleaning the stain itself. If your sleeping bag/jacket is greasy or there are large areas of dirt, it can be washed using the instructions provided on the product - we have also provided these below.

  • If washed too hot, prints will come off.

  • Normal powder detergents usually contain abrasives that can damage the outer fabric.

  • Spin speeds that are too high will strain the seams and filling and may even cause them to tear!

  • Washing

    • The washing instructions are located in the inner pocket of the sleeping bag/jacket.

    • The item can be hand-washed with a down-specific detergent at a maximum of 30°C/86°F or machine-washed using the wool wash cycle. Please turn it inside out, zip it up, perform an additional rinse cycle, and do not use fabric softener.

    • Remove the item from the machine, fluff it up a bit, and run an additional spin cycle at a maximum of 600 revolutions.

    Drying

    • Dry in a tumble dryer at a maximum of 60°C/140°F, and be sure to add 2-3 tennis balls for better fluffing.

    • Please perform multiple drying cycles, and after each cycle, remove the item from the machine, shake or fluff it well, and allow it to cool down in between.

    • The dryer should be set on a timed program to ensure thorough drying of the down.

    • If a tumble dryer is not available, the sleeping bag can be placed on a laundry rack on sunny days and should be frequently shaken to allow air from above and below to circulate.

How do you know when the drying process is complete?

    • If the item still doesn't have its original thickness, you need to repeat the drying cycles until the sleeping bag feels more filled than before.

    • Depending on the water resistance of the outer material, the drying process may take varying lengths of time (at least 2 days, depending on the dryer model).

    • The down must be completely dry. If the sleeping bag is not properly dried and fluffed, there is a risk of clumping the down feathers. This could irreparably damage the sleeping bag. Damp down may have an odour, but this odour will dissipate when the sleeping bag is fully dry.

  • Washing

    • The washing instructions are located in the inner pocket of the sleeping bag.

    • The item can be washed with a wool detergent (without protease) at a maximum of 30 °C/86 °F by hand or in the washing machine on the wool cycle.

    • Turn the item inside out and close the zipper.

    • Run an extra rinse cycle and do not use fabric softener.

    • Spin the item only lightly (max. 600 revolutions per minute)!

On sunny days, the product can be laid flat on a drying rack to allow air circulation from both above and below, ensuring thorough drying.
